Hotels in Mexico will gradually be introducing an "Eco-Tax".
This means that every user of a hotel room in Mexico is obliged to pay a fee to the state locally at the hotel in cash, similar to a tourist tax.
****************************************
A tourism tax came into effect on April 1, 2021, and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 224 Mexican Pesos or approximately 12 US dollars per person, regardless of the planned duration of stay in the country.
The tax can be paid electronically before departure via the following link: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/
Alternatively, the tax can be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is advisable to carry the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars.
No smoking
Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.
