Location

The "Matemwe Attitude" is a 4-star hotel located in Matemwe on the north coast of Zanzibar. The seemingly endless beach and the hotel's quiet location in an unspoiled part of the island invite you to relax and unwind. Opposite the hotel is the small island of Mnemba, one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots. The distance to Zanzibar International Airport is 50 km and takes about 1 hour by car.

The unique adults-only hotel "Matemwe Attitude" celebrated its grand opening in November 2025. 74 villas are spread over 80,000 m² amidst almost untouched tropical nature. Guests are pampered with local dishes in 2 different main restaurants (buffet restaurant with international and local specialties, beach restaurant with pizza and Tanzanian street food) and 2 bars. Both restaurants are included in the dine-around concept (from half board). Sun loungers and parasols are available free of charge to all guests at the 2 pools as well as on both beaches. The local shop offers drinks, snacks, etc. without unnecessary packaging to reduce single-use plastic, as well as locally made souvenirs. At the Marine Discovery Center, interested guests can learn about the ocean habitat and the conservation projects of the Attitude Foundation. The hotel's own organic garden, which supplies the kitchen, is open for visitors to explore. In addition, a local cooking class with the head chef and a coffee/tea tasting are offered. The arrival/departure lounge with showers and changing facilities is available to guests free of charge for early arrivals or late departures. While there is Wi-Fi in all areas of the hotel, there are deliberately no TVs in the rooms. Simply switch off, take a deep breath, and return to the essentials. The hotel is the ideal place to experience relaxation anew.

Swim-up Villa (2SU)

The 24 swim-up villas (approx. 74 m²) are located in the upper area of the resort. Every 4 villas share a common pool with direct access from the terrace. Each villa features a terrace with seating and sun loungers, an outdoor shower surrounded by nature, air conditioning, a fan, and a separate WC. A safe, hairdryer, mini-fridge, and coffee and tea-making facilities are also in the villas. Coffee, tea, and snacks can be topped up in the shop to avoid waste.

Deluxe Villa (2DV)

The 22 deluxe villas (approx. 78 m²) offer plenty of privacy. With the same basic features as the swim-up villas, they include a private garden with a pool and, instead of the outdoor shower, a double walk-in shower in the bathroom that opens up to the garden.

Deluxe Villa partial Seaview (GX2)

Just like the deluxe villa, this spacious villa features a private pool and garden and offers the same peace and privacy – but with a window in the garden wall through which one can enjoy a glimpse of sea view over the lush vegetation. Also bookable for single occupancy (GX1).

Sea front Villa (M2V)

The 12 two-story, approx. 101 m² sea front villas are located directly by the sea. On the ground floor is the sleeping area with an adjoining bathroom with an outdoor shower and the terrace. On the upper floor is a lounge with a large balcony and a plunge pool. From there, guests have an incomparable panoramic view of the sea. Also bookable for single occupancy (M1V).

Honeymoon Special Swim-Up Villa (HS2)

You will receive a discounted room rate upon presentation of a marriage certificate. A marriage certificate/document of marriage not older than 12 months must be presented at check-in. If no certificate is available upon arrival, the surcharge must be paid by the guest. In addition, honeymooners receive a signature tea created in collaboration with the magnificent B-Corp certified Tanzanian tea manufacturer "Kazi Yetu", a handmade notebook with a Kitenge fabric cover from the inspiring NGO Neema Crafts, as well as a candlelight dinner (excluding drinks).

Beach Retreat Villa (2BV)

The spacious and light-flooded Beach Retreat Villas have only the sea as their neighbor. Each has direct access to the beach with its own sun loungers and parasol. On the ground floor, the bedroom opens onto a shaded terrace with a table for outdoor dining right by the lagoon, as well as a hammock. On the upper floor, there is a cozy living area with a traditional Swahili bed, from where you can reach a private pool with a view.
