Location

The Matemwe Sands Beach Resort is located in Matemwe on the north coast of Unguja in Zanzibar, right on the sandy beach. The hotel is close to Mnemba Island, which is ideal for snorkeling and diving, as well as for relaxing days at the beach. The transfer to the airport takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

The elegant resort, built in 2025, offers a modern and stylish atmosphere for a relaxing beach vacation. The property has a total of 68 comfortable rooms and includes 1 main buffet restaurant as well as an à la carte restaurant with selected specialties. Outdoors, there is a spacious swimming pool (35 m long, 18 m wide) that invites you to relax and swim, as well as a pool bar with snacks and drinks (according to the AI program) and a beach bar. Beach and bath towels, as well as sun loungers and umbrellas, are available free of charge.

Please note that hotel check-in takes place from 2 pm or 3 pm, regardless of the arrival time.
We would like to inform you that all airlines from Tanzania are currently on the EU's so-called ‘blacklist’. For this reason, they are currently not authorised to operate long-haul flights to the EU. We are therefore not currently using any of these airlines for our long-haul flights to the EU.
The lack of authorisation is not due to specific safety problems with the individual airlines, but rather to the inspection and safety procedures of the Tanzanian aviation authority, which do not currently meet the safety requirements of the EU.
However, the airlines that we use for domestic flights (for example, for transfer flights from Zanzibar to mainland Tanzania) are subject to the international safety assessment ISSA of the IATA (International Air Transport Association) or a comparable safety assessment. These assessments correspond to the globally recognised safety standards of the aviation industry.
