Location

Located just 20 m from the Calheta Marina, this modern hotel blends perfectly into the landscape between the mountains and the sea. A special feature of the hotel is its walking distance to the golden sandy beach of Calheta (approx. 500m away). The town is about a 10-minute walk away. Funchal Airport is approximately 50 km away.

The luxurious 5-star hotel, which pays homage to the golden age of sugar cane production through its name and decor, is very modern and furnished with natural materials. It has a total of 243 rooms and suites, a large lobby with reception, conference rooms, an indoor pool (on the 8th floor), a private breakfast lounge & terrace "The Club" (for guests of the SPE double room with sea view and SPE pool suite with sea view), 5 bars, a buffet restaurant ('Engenho') and two à-la-carte restaurants ('Alambique' and "Trapiche"). Outside, there is a spectacular infinity pool (sun loungers and umbrellas are available here for a fee) with a breathtaking view of the sea, as well as a separate children's pool. A second pool (adults only, loungers free of charge) is available on the 2nd floor. The hotel also houses a sugar cane museum (gallery).

Double room with side sea view

The double rooms with side sea view (approx. 32 m²) are spacious and modernly furnished and feature a bathroom with shower/WC, air conditioning, telephone, TV, minibar (for a fee), safe (free of charge), bathrobe, slippers, coffee/tea maker and a balcony with side sea view (DMS). Also bookable as double room side sea view type A (AMS/XES) and for single use (DES) (different prices and availability, no difference in facilities). Double room with sea view (DM) and double room with sea view type A (DMA) can be booked at an additional cost (different prices and availability, no difference in facilities). Also available as double room with sea view for single use (DEM, AME).

Double room with sea view type I

The double rooms with sea view type I have the same facilities as the double rooms with sea view, but can only be booked with breakfast (DMI). Also bookable for single occupancy in winter 26/27 (EMI).
Also bookable as double room with side sea view with breakfast (DIS).

Double room atrium

The double rooms atrium are generously sized (approx. 32m²) with shower/WC, air conditioning, TV, minibar (for a fee), safe (incl.), balcony and atrium view (DAT). Also bookable as double room atrium for single use (DET). Double rooms atrium type I have the same facilities as the double rooms atrium, but can only be booked with breakfast (DTI). Also bookable for single use (EID). Bookable in winter 26/27 and summer 27.

SPE double room with sea view

The SPE double rooms with sea view (2PM) are equipped like the double rooms with sea view, are located on higher floors and additionally include the Savoy Premium Experience Service (more information under the section seasonal information).

SPE pool suite with sea view

The SPE pool suite with sea view (approx. 80 m²) has the same facilities as the double rooms, but is more spacious, has 2 balconies (one of which has a small pool), hydromassage bathtub and shower. In addition, the Savoy Premium Experience Service is included (further information under the section seasonal information) (PS2).
Rooms with direct pool/sea access present an increased safety risk for small children.
Therefore, for security reasons, schauinsland-reisen requires a minimum age of 6 years for children booking these room types.

Suite

The suites have the same facilities as the double rooms, are significantly larger (40m²) and have a living room with kitchenette, a separate bedroom (separated by a curtain or door) and a balcony with atrium view (S2). Side sea view (MS2) or direct sea view (S2M) can be booked at an additional cost.

Meals

HB/FB

Breakfast and dinner in buffet style (Engenho restaurant).
With full board (FB), lunch is provided in the Trapiche restaurant (à-la-carte).
If guests wish to dine in the à-la-carte restaurants Trapiche or Calhau Beach Club (only open in summer), a discount is offered (unlimited access, but advance reservation is required).
