Hotels in Mexico will now introduce an "Eco-Tax". This means that every user of a hotel room in Mexico is obliged to pay a fee to the state locally at the hotel in cash, similar to a tourist tax.

As of April 1, 2021, a tourism tax has been implemented and currently costs a one-time fee of 72.63 Mexican Pesos or approx. 3.72 US Dollars per room/per night.

Alternatively, the tax can also be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is advisable to carry the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars. In Mexico, sinks or bathtubs/whirlpools may be integrated openly without spatial separation in the general living area of the hotel room.

Smoking Ban

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal Note

For stays between April and December, an increased presence of seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, brown algae are often observed in larger quantities in the Caribbean during this period. This affects the beach and the sea. The hotel management and local authorities are, of course, endeavoring to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with the municipal administrations. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which generates a slight background noise.
