*************************************
Hotels in Mexico are gradually introducing an "Eco-Tax".
This means that every hotel room user in Mexico is obliged to pay a fee to the state locally at the hotel in cash, similar to a tourist tax.
As of February 1, 2026, the municipal environmental tax will be levied as follows: first guest 35.19 MXN, second guest 23.46 MXN, third guest 17.60 MXN. This tax applies to all guests aged 13 and over, is paid directly at the hotel by guests upon arrival, and is charged per room per night.
**************************************
In Mexico, sinks or bathtubs/Jacuzzis may be open without spatial separation integrated into the general living area of the hotel room.
A tourism tax was introduced on April 1, 2021, and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 224 Mexican pesos, or approximately 11 US dollars per person, regardless of the planned duration of stay in the country.
The tax can be paid electronically before departure via the following link: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/
Alternatively, the tax can also be paid in cash upon entry at the airport. It is advisable to carry the exact amount in Mexican pesos or US dollars.

No Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

For stays between April and December, increased occurrences of seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, there is often an increased presence of brown algae in the Caribbean during this period. This affects the beach and the sea. Hotel management and local authorities are naturally working to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with the municipal authorities. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which may generate some noise.
