**************************************
Effective immediately, hotels in Mexico are gradually introducing an "Eco-Tax".
As a result, every guest staying in a hotel room in Mexico is required to pay a state levy locally at the hotel in cash, similar to a tourist tax.
**************************************
As of April 1, 2021, a tourism tax was implemented, currently amounting to a one-time fee of 224 Mexican Pesos or approx. 11 US Dollars per person, regardless of the planned duration of stay in the country.
The tax can be paid electronically before departure via the following link: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/
Alternatively, the tax can be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is recommended to have the exact amount ready in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars. In Mexico, sinks or bathtubs/whirlpools may be openly integrated into the general living area of the hotel room without spatial separation.
In the "Long-haul Travel" 2025/26 catalog on page 58.

Smoking ban

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

Between April and December, there may be an increased occurrence of seaweed and algae due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, an increased presence of sargassum (brown algae) is frequently observed in the Caribbean during this time, which may affect the beach and the sea. The hotel management and local authorities naturally strive to clean the affected beach sections in cooperation with municipal administrations. However, the use of appropriate machinery is required for this, which may generate slight noise.
