Hotels in Mexico will now introduce an "Eco-Tax". Every hotel room user in Mexico is obliged to pay a local tax to the state in cash at the hotel.

As of April 1, 2021, a tourism tax came into force and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 224 Mexican Pesos or approx. 11 US Dollars per person, regardless of the planned duration of stay in the country.

Alternatively, the tax can be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is advisable to carry the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars.

No Smoking Policy

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal Note

For stays between April and December, there may be an increased occurrence of seaweed and algae due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, an increased occurrence of brown algae in the Caribbean is often observed. The beach and sea are affected by this. Hotel management and local authorities are naturally endeavoring to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with municipal administrations. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which generates some noise.
