Hotelhinweis

Effective immediately, hotels in Mexico will introduce an "eco-tax". As a result, every guest in a hotel room in Mexico is required to pay a state-levied tax in cash at the hotel, similar to a local tourist tax.
**************************************
A tourism tax was put into effect on April 1, 2021, and is currently a one-time fee of 224 Mexican Pesos or approx. 11 US dollars per person, regardless of the planned length of stay in the country.
The tax can be paid electronically before departure via the following link: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/
Alternatively, the tax can also be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is recommended to carry the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars.

Smoking ban

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

Between April and December, there may be an increased occurrence of seaweed and algae due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, there is often an increased appearance of brown algae in the Caribbean during this time. This can affect the beach and the sea. The hotel management and local authorities naturally strive to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with municipal administrations. This, however, requires the use of appropriate equipment, which may cause a slight background noise.
