Location

The hotel is located in the quiet hotel zone of Playacar, directly on the fine sandy beach. Cancun Airport is about 60 km away and Playa del Carmen is approx. 4 km away.

The resort complex consists of two separate hotels, separated by a tropical forest. Guests can use the amenities of the Quetzal Hotel. The Iberostar Tucán has 350 rooms in 3-story buildings, a lobby with reception and bar. The resort also offers a main restaurant, five specialty restaurants, 4 bars, and a theater. In the tropical complex, inspired by the local Maya culture, there is a large pool area with an aquabar and an activity pool. Sun loungers and towels are included by the pool and on the beach. Wi-Fi is available free of charge throughout the complex.

Double room

The double rooms (approx. 35 m²) have a king-size bed or two double beds, bath/shower/toilet, air conditioning, ceiling fan, flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, safe, coffee machine, and hairdryer. The rooms also have a balcony. (D/DE/KD). Bookable as Premium Room from 1.11.2023 (PR1/PR2/PPR). Also bookable as Premium Tropical View with garden view from 1.11.2023 (PTZ).

Double room pool side

With the same amenities as the double rooms and located near the pool or beach (DP). Bookable as Double Room Near Pool Superior from 1.11.2023 (NPS).

Double room Superior Near Pool

With the same amenities as the double rooms, these are in a preferred location directly by the pool (NPS). Bookable as Double Room Premium Near Beach from 1.11.2023 (BPN).

Junior Suite

The Junior Suites (approx. 38 m²) have the same amenities as the double rooms, are more spacious and modernly furnished. They have a king-size bed and a balcony with jungle view (JS2/JS1).

Junior Suite Ocean View

The Junior Suite Ocean View (approx. 38 m²) has the same amenities as the double rooms, but is located on the first or second floor, is more spacious, and has a balcony with sea view (JOV).

Family room

The family rooms (approx. 70 m²) consist of two double rooms with a connecting door and are equipped like the double rooms. One room has a king-size bed and the other room has 2 double beds (DF2/KD2/KD3).

Junior Suite Ocean Front Beach Access (W22/23)

The suites have the same amenities as the other suites, but are just a few steps from the beach (JFF).

Note

In the Caribbean, most rooms are equipped with two double beds (approx. 1.40 x 2m). With occupancy of 2 adults + 1/2 children/3 adults, no extra beds are placed in the room, meaning occupancy: 2 people per bed, even if extra beds are listed on the confirmation!

A tourism tax came into force on April 1, 2021, and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 224 Mexican Pesos or approx. 11 US Dollars per person, regardless of the planned duration of stay in the country.
The tax can be paid electronically before departure via the following link: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/
Alternatively, the tax can also be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is advisable to have the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars with you.

No smoking policy

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

During stays between April and December, increased occurrences of seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, an increased presence of brown algae is often observed in the Caribbean during this period. This affects the beach and the sea. The hotel management and local authorities are naturally endeavoring to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with the municipal administrations. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which generates a slight background noise.
